As I've mentioned, one more version of Viscous Tactics is going to be released. The title is changing to "Viscous Cycle" and this version will feature wholly original graphics. However, that's not the big news.


This is no longer a demo, but a prototype - I cannot realize my vision in RPGMaker. It's too limited as it is, and I had to get friends to modify the JavaScript code in order to come this far. Instead, I will be rebuilding the game from the ground up in either GameMaker Studio or Unity - and after the release of the final prototype, I will launch a Kickstarter in order to accomplish this. I think Viscous Tactics/Cycle has a lot of potential, it could be a great game, but if I insist on making it solo, without any money or assistance, the result will not match up to my ambition. While the final prototype is the intended end of development for the RPGMaker build of this game, if any further bugs or problems come to light, I will attempt to fix them - I'm not totally abandoning it.


I don't exactly have a lot of fans around here, but I hope you will support my efforts to make this project to a higher standard. I'm excited to see where this could go, and I'm excited that I may finally be able to release a proper, complete game, after all of the demos and short games I've worked on over the past decade or so (I started making games back in elementary school.)


Anyways, I figured that this merits a news post, but I'll be making another upon the release of the final prototype and creation of the Kickstarter page.


Oh. and here's a bit of the new art - the Green Slime and Bullet Wasp:

AYYY the Pico Day edition of Viscous Tactics was released without bugs, as y'all know - and it's sitting at 3.2 out of 5! The original, which got less than 3 stars, was a little disappointing to me, but I'm really happy to see that you guys liked it a little better this time!


As soon as the new art is done, there will be a third, final release - maybe I'll be able to hit 3.5 this time!

So, responding to player feedback on discord, Viscous Tactics is going to be getting a tutorial soon, as well as a "bestiary" of sorts. Just a little NPC you can talk to, who will give you a summary of what's dangerous. I'll include a bestiary post in the description as well - for easy reference when you're in the middle of a fight. It'll be a bit of a pain in the ass to add one to the in-game menu, but I will be doing so eventually, this is just a small, temporary QoL thing. Additionally, the RPGMaker default graphics are going the way of the dodo, I'm working on new tilesets, and a certain Discord user has agreed to assist in replacing the in game sprites for enemies and player units. That's a bit further ahead, but I personally am really looking forward to it.


Pico day is coming up as well - I wonder if there will be any new content to celebrate such a momentous day? Maybe a new playable character?


Only time will tell!

Well goddamn. A few oversights have come to my attention, but fret not, oh ye 2 people who've actually played my game! I'm rolling out a new update right now - party members should no longer disappear after clearing a level, and the third floor's Cursed Idols have 1 less range - they were always supposed to have 4 spaces of minimum range, but I got confused and put in the wrong numbers.
